Howdy everyone

I haven't ever used KMail with bluewin yet (I'm a Cablecom hispeed
customer) so I can't say anything about that ISP in particular.
Furthermore I haven't been using KMail before the most recent release in
KDE 3.2.2, so I don't know about KMail in older versions.

There isn't really anything to be done in Kmail except for clicking on
"Configure KMail" in the drop-down list and then punch in the correct
address for the SMTP server. Pierre's bad authentication makes it sound,
however, like his mailprogram isn't passing on his username and password
with the send request to the SMTP server. (since a little while, email
servers not only require to have username and password transmitted on
receiving mail, but also on sending to prevent spammers abusing the SMTP
server) In the most recent version of KMail the user can define the
username and password to be used along with the "normal" smtp settings.
Furthermore, it let's you test what kind of connection (plain/encrypted)
the server allows - it works flawlessly on my system.

Oh, okay, so here's the translation of Cesar's idea: he recollects that
the bluewin SMTP-server only allows connections from hosts that got an
IP assigned by Bluewin itself. This would be the case if you're trying
to use the Bluewin SMTP without actually using Bluewin as your ISP. In
this case, use the SMTP-server of your ISP instead.

Live long and prosper
