Gruezi,
I have started to fill a spreadsheet on OpenOffice years ago. I then
transfered it onto LibreOffice Calc spreadsheet and continued to fill it
up.
Now I have my spreadsheet with 200 rows with 20 colums of data. The
columns have text, date, currencies, exchange rates, numbers, formulas,
percentages, address, phone #, zip code, email, web address.
I have filled the data on computers with Windows and then Linux. (the
date formats are sometimes different 20-4-89 and 4/20/02 ; numbers are
15,86 and 15.86 ; Rene and Rénà) It is a mess !
I want to use my spreadsheet data to create a database with LibreOffice
Base. I have managed to create a table and tried to customize it with
Field type INTER, Decimal, VARCHAR,.... When I copy my spreadsheet
(maybe some cells are still formatted, I don’t know for sure) and paste
it into the table, errors messages show up such as “Wrong data
type:java.lang.NumberFormatException:Character , is neither a decimal
digit number, decimal point, nor “e” notation exponential mark.” I have
manually changed the numbers from 13,45 to 13.45. I still get errors.
The reason I want to transfer the data into a database is I want to be
able to print each Row’s info onto a single paper. My understanding is
that in order to achieve it, I first need to transfer my data into a
table. Then create a form that will use the data which will allow me to
print only the info of a single row.
Eventually I would maybe like to use this data for a Website. It seems
there could be « language issues ».
I am asking for some guidance and what is the most efficient way to go
forward to build the most solid, versatile cross platform database and
hopefully be able to use the data from the spreadsheet.
Many thanks
Georges
